ATLANTA, GA. (Sept. 19, 2016) – The Georgia Game Developers Association announced today that award-winning game designer Rand Miller, co-creator of one of the most successful computer games of all time, will keynote the 10th annual Southern Interactive Entertainment and Game Expo (www.siegecon.net) Oct. 7. Rand released his latest game, Obduction, called the spiritual successor to Myst, on Aug. 26.
“Not only is Rand co-creator of one of the greatest games of all times, but he has never rested on his laurels,” said SIEGE Director Andrew Greenberg. “From Myst to Riven and now to Obduction, he has continued to create titles that immerse players in unique worlds and storylines.”
Rand and his brother Robyn, released Myst in 1993, followed by Riven in 1997. The two games remain the best-selling PC titles of the 20th century, often lauded for their puzzles, stories and world design. His company, Cyan, has released numerous games and novels, creating some of the most detailed gaming settings in existence. Obduction raised more than $1 million via crowdfunding before launching last month.
“This is a new exploration experience for the next generation of explorers who are used to real-time worlds that unfold before their eyes,” said Miller. “We’re building remarkable landscapes, architecture, and environments that surpass anything we’ve done before. I’m looking forward to sharing how we created this new success with the SIEGE attendees. ”
Miller joins an already distinguished line up of speakers at SIEGE, including its renowned IGDA Leadership track Oct. 7 - 9, put on in conjunction with the International Game Developers Association. This track focuses on advancing knowledge for leaders in the games industry and includes content of interest to senior management, newly formed teams, large departments, small startups, outsourcers, contractors, and others. The Leadership track offers the most pertinent and contemporary firsthand accounts and concrete lessons that can be readily applied by session attendees.
Taking place in Atlanta, GA, the Southern Interactive Entertainment & Game Expo [SIEGE] is the largest professional game development conference in the Southern United States. Since 2007, SIEGE has featured leading figures from the industry and has hosted panels reflecting a wide spectrum of the game production industry including artists, programmers, designers, investors, writers, teachers and business executives.
